Free-living Heterotrophic Flagellates (Protista) from Two Hypersaline Lakes in Turkey

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study was carried out in two hypersaline lakes (Acı and Meke Lakes) Turkey to understand the diversity geographic distribution of free-living heterotrophic flagellates. Heterotrophic flagellates environments have not previously been studied Turkey. We found seventeen morphospecies with one unidentified protist. The observed species belong Craspedida, Heterolobosea, Apusomonadida, Neobodonida, Bicosoecida Protista incertae sedis. Of 17 species, ten were new records for All described here except protist reported elsewhere appear be cosmopolitan.

Free-living Heterotrophic Flagellates from Freshwater Sites in Tasmania (Australia), a Field Survey

In order to contribute to an understanding of the geographic distribution of free-living freshwater flagellates, we have investigated the diversity of heterotrophic flagellates occurring in a number of freshwater sites in Tasmania (Australia). This community of organisms has not previously been studied in Tasmania, and the isolation of the freshwater habitats from like habitats elsewhere in the...

Diversity of halophilic archaea from six hypersaline environments in Turkey.

The diversity of archaeal strains from six hypersaline environments in Turkey was analyzed by comparing their phenotypic characteristics and 16S rDNA sequences. Thirty-three isolates were characterized in terms of their phenotypic properties including morphological and biochemical characteristics, susceptibility to different antibiotics, and total lipid and plasmid contents, and finally compare...

Free Kinetosomes in Australian Flagellates

An electron microscope study was made of Deltotrichonympha and Koruga, two closely-related hypermastigote flagellates that live in the hindgut of the Australian termite, Mastotermes darwiniensis These symbiotic protozoans have a typical flagellated rostrum and long body flagella. Their "giant centrioles" (centriolar apparatus) are large, fibrillar, and granular bodies which do not resemble typi...

Heterotrophic Protists in Hypersaline Microbial Mats and Deep Hypersaline Basin Water Columns

Although hypersaline environments pose challenges to life because of the low water content (water activity), many such habitats appear to support eukaryotic microbes. This contribution presents brief reviews of our current knowledge on eukaryotes of water-column haloclines and brines from Deep Hypersaline Anoxic Basins (DHABs) of the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as shallow-water hypersaline m...
